400 visas are a good option for both employers and workers to use to address short term employment issues.
Subclass 400 visas are short stay visas granted for up to 3 or up to 6 months. The work to be completed needs to be finite and non-ongoing. Examples of this are as follows:
- Installing a new machine into a factory
- Assisting with finalising an IT project with a tight deadline
- Insurance work following on from a natural disaster
You need to justify why the work cannot be finished within the standard 3 months if you need the visa to be granted for longer. The reason for the visa needs to be genuine and not merely to get around the stricter requirements of the subclass 482 Employer Sponsored visa.
Getting the right advice from the very beginning of the process is critical when planning your projects.
