New Pathway to Australian Permanent Residency
The department is now offering a new pathway to permanent residency (known as DAMA II), offering 117 semi-skilled occupations to visa applicants prepared to live and work in the Northern Territory for at least 3 years. Coming into effect from January 1st 2019, occupations range from accountants to child care workers, to chefs and web designers.
Many of these occupations are eligible for English language concession and a Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) concession making it more accessible to semi-skilled migrants with limited English.
The aim of the pathway is to move the migrant population outside of the major cities in Australia and into areas where there are labour shortages, and roles cannot be filled by Australian citizens.
